My “Conscious Closet” Makeover – Part 2

My “Conscious Closet” Makeover – Part 2

After spending majority of this past weekend really diving into Jill Laine's capturing e-book, The Conscious Closet, I've been able to conquer the tangled mess that use to be my least favorite place in my home, my bedroom closet. Ironic that my least favorite place would be my bedroom closet, right? But after having my son, Cole, it was the my quick cleaning reflex to throw anything and everything in there to get it momentarily out of sight. With owning two business myself and being super Mom, things got hectic and thoroughly cleaning every nook and cranny had officially taken a backseat. After eight months, yes you read that right - eight long months, of living with a deep dark case of closet shame, I was blessed with the gracious gift of The Conscious Closet.

OF CLOSET SHAME"

After reading, journaling, and pondering the truth about my style, I began to go through each individual hanger and quickly developed a pile of ill-fitting, unloved, and outdated clothing on the floor. The clothing that didn't fit, but was loved, was traded with family and friends. The clothing that was unloved and outdated will be taking a permanent vacation at our local Goodwill. Perhaps someone else will love them or at the very least can achieve an outrageously perfect Halloween costume with one or two of the pieces donated.

So here is what I ultimately did: I kept the pieces I loved, fit, were still in style, quality and classic. I realized my style is pretty timeless, as I love pieces that are well-tailored, well-made, and aren't too trendy. I made all of my hangers the same color (or at least two colors), refolded some sweatshirts, organized some shoes and found a great tip for keeping your boots upright.

This road that Jill and her e-book have lead me on has made me realize that I do have things to wear and I don't have that desire to find something new for every other occasion. I know that I love everything in my closet and that everything fits. My closet is becoming my own personal boutique and I am thrilled! Granted, I have more to tackle with organizing other areas of the closet, plus go through the process again for Mr.M's side, I am shocked that so much was accomplished in reading just a third of her book.

I cannot wait to keep reading and organizing every aspect of my "boutique." It's quickly becoming a beloved spot of mine and I'm no longer loathing the task of choosing what to wear. Stay tuned for more updates, photos, tips and tricks to come! Also if you haven't already purchased your own copy of Jill Laine's e-book, The Conscious Closet, you can do so here and join me in the most amazing organizing process every woman should follow and experience.

Cheers + Happy Organizing!

My “Conscious Closet” Makeover – Part 1

MyConsciousClosetMakeover2This weekend I am taking a launch into new territory, my closet.  This is practically uncharted territory since having my son eight months ago.  My closet practically has a mind of it’s own by being half-his, half-hers, a linen closet, unused art gallery, and baby storage depot.  Honestly speaking, even those that proclaim their love for organization, like me, have trouble areas too.  No one is perfect.  That is why I have a great helpful style and closet organization guru for you to meet.  Her name is Jill Laine and she is my stylish closet “fairy godmother.”  Recently, she has written an e-book titled, The Conscious Closet.  Being the lucky girl that I am, I was generous gifted a copy by Jill.  I cannot express how grateful and extremely excited I am to dig into this e-book.  The tackling begins this weekend and I am showing pics along the way so you all can join me on this organizing adventure.  If you would like to have a “conscious closet” yourself, you can purchase a copy of Jill’s e-book here. I should also mention, when you do purchase The Conscious Closet, you’ll have the opportunity to join a special group on Facebook, where you can ask questions and receive feedback from others who are organizing their closet and wardrobe too.  The best part about this special group? You have the opportunity to save thousands and have Jill give feedback and input on your progress along the way.   There are so many amazing things that her e-book holds in store for anyone who wants to change their closet (and figure out their wants and needs when it comes to shopping for clothing once and for all).  I hope you’ll join me and many others on this organizing journey into our closets. For now here are some extremely embarrassing “before” pics of my disastrous closet.  Please feel free to send pics of yours and let me know if you have any other great tips for closet organization along the way!

And the bottom half of the closet on both sides (soon to not be a highly embarrassing mess).

These will forever serve as a reminder of where I started and believe me, it will never get this way again.  Once you thoroughly follow Jill’s program, you will never have to start from scratch ever again.  I’m looking forward to seeing your photos and hearing about your experiences too!

Cheers + Happy Organizing!
